Armes, a native of central Florida, has shown an interest in classical music from an early age. He was first introduced to the pipe organ by the late Marie Johnson, and while still in high school began private study of the instrument with Dr. Boyd Jones, professor of organ at Stetson University. He completed his undergraduate degree in music performance at Stetson in 2007 and went on to graduate work at the Yale University Institute of Sacred Music, where he studied organ with Thomas Murray and improvisation with Jeffrey Brillhart. Additionally, Josiah completed a year of doctoral studies at the Eastman School of Music under the tutelage of David Higgs. He is a past winner of the Regional Competition for Young Organists and has performed in numerous venues around the eastern U.S.

Josiah is currently associate organist at St. Andrew’s Chapel in Sanford, Florida. In his free time he enjoys reading, board games, and biking.
